Very simple yet filled with detail. The wear marks on the pestle are what stands out for me, a hidden contrast against the cleanliness of the rest. The red was a great choice in bringing in some contrast; the new and fresh against the old and worn.
The V shape made between the chili and pestle I would say lends itself to a portrait composition with the mortar based in the lower 3rd. Then again that may not draw ones eye so neatly onto the pestle as it currently does.
