Artificial light...night photography...pt2

  1. You took in the comments last week!

#1 is a great 'spooky' shot with alternating light/shadow and well placed silhouette. The lines (pavement and stones in the road) leading to the subject I feel could have been emphasised in favor of the building, as I'm not sure the brightly lit foreground adds much.

#2 Great use of long exposure; it's nicely isolated the subject and it looks like he is surrounded by some sort of 'apparition'. Use of a tripod to reduce shake and keep the background sharp would have added that extra sense of eeriness I'd think.

#3 Lack of focus is great here, allows the mind to roam free. A red light district, neon nightclub or a bus lit up on the side... whatever it is, it's urban. I'd perhaps enjoy a bit more of the colour so that it fills the frame...

5# Late night. Like the frame you've used between the drainage pipe, bikes and parasol to contain the light and highlight those guys out and about. Does it benefit from the red colour highlight? I don't know... I'd like to see the B&W version please :)

  2. My favourite is the first photo, I like that the brightest lights are closest to the person. I found my eyes were drawn there first and then to the rest of the photo.
With the second photo I think I would have liked the man to be in focus a little more.
I normally don't like black and white photos with a small bit of colour but I liked your one, it seems to just work. The tone of the red is quite cool and I think it lends itself to the monotone of the rest of the picture. I think I would have liked to see slightly more of the road to the left.
